The post-conference excursion will bring us to the Darss Peninsula, which is part of the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park. The area developed through recent sedimentation of marine sands, shaping a unique alternation of dune ranges and slacks.
Due to the high number of participants the excursion will be split in two groups:
Group I will make a ca. 15-km walk on the peninsula, following a successional pathway from pioneer vegetation on the young dunes to beech forests on old dunes. We expect to be back in Greifswald around 5-6 p.m.
Group II will be guided with more focus on landscape development. In three stops and shorter walks on the coast, the late Pleistocene and Holocene evolution of the southern Baltic Sea and its coastal areas will be covered. This tour will be back in Greifswald at 4 p.m.
Per participant, a fee of 20 Euros is charged, including transportation and lunch. Signing-up for the excursion was possible upon registration. Sign-up for your preferred tour (group I or II) will be available at the registration desk.
Please check out the weather forecast for the Darss peninsula and don’t forget to bring appropriate shoes and clothing!
